A Trip Down Memory Lane – Part 1

A little about me…I am 41 ½ years old. Yes the ½ counts in my world. I am not so book smart but very street smart. I went to college (SDSU), graduated with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Political Science in 1996. I worked in the Advertising industry up until 3 years ago when WK was having a super tough time and needed me. My jobs always consisted of traveling, a LOT, far away and for long periods of time. I built and oversaw numerous digital Sales organizations over the years and have probably been responsible for […]

A Trip Down Memory Lane – Part 2

When WK was 5 years old, I sorta had the come to Jesus with myself. He was slowly progressing with his PECS communication board, he was potty trained, he was no longer receiving ABA Therapy in home and had since been “transferred” to the local District. Sounds fantastic doesn’t it? Yea, not so much. He continued to have serious gut issues, he was so picky with food it was nearly impossible to feed him, he was 5 and could together two words “want juice” “go pee pee.” I wasn’t going to settle that this was all that he was capable […]

A Trip Down Memory Lane – Part 3-The Final Chapter

I felt like I was on Cloud 9….WK “was getting better!” Woo hoo! And then it all came crashing to an abrupt stop on 8/3/13. I noticed WK starting what appeared to look like spasms in his belly. He would be sitting and you could see his belly move almost like it was contracting. It was late in the evening on 8/3/13 when I noticed this. On 8/4/13, I took him to the movies and he was extremely wiggly in his seat, abnormally wiggly. It was almost like he was so uncomfortable that needed to keep moving around to perhaps […]

One step forward, two steps back

Well folks my intention was to post something cool and fun about WK today but unfortunately we are dealing with some pretty heavy medical stuff. WK’s PANDAS Syndrome which has been in full flare now for going on 2 months. This means facial tics are out of control, rashes, etc. UGH! I cannot stand his Immunologist who gives us zero time and has his Assistant call me back when I have questions. I asked him months ago to run a blood panel on WK to see if WK had Strep or Lyme and he refused to do so because he […]

IEP meeting approaching next week…not a good time to stop drinking

IEP. Three little letters that drive me bat shit crazy. For those of you are unfamiliar with what an IEP is, it is an Individualized Education Program that is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Here is a brief snip it from Wikipedia. If you want more detailed info then please click the highlighted “wikipedia” word. “An IEP defines the individualized objectives of a child who has been found with a disability, as defined by federal regulations. The IEP is intended to help children reach educational goals more easily than they otherwise would.[1] In all cases the IEP […]

WK’s Daily Schedule and it’s enough to make your head explode!

So want to know what consists in “A Day In The Life Of A Warrior?” Yes let me start by saying I know that every Parent leads a busy life. Trying to juggle work, kids, sports, etc. I get it so I am not trying to gain any sympathy here, but I think it is important to share what goes into making WK function at the level he currently is functioning at. WK is a “schedule” kind of guy. In order for him to stay on task he needs a strict schedule and as you will see below, it is […]
